Tates Bluff

lies on the northeast corner of Ouachita county. Two rivers converge at this spot: The Little Missouri and the Ouachita. This can be viewed from a highway bridge that crosses this very location, providing an excellent view. A huge swath of river gravel lines one bank. Families often go swimming here. But the swift current can be dangerous... Be cautious.

History...

The location gets it's name from John and Mary Tate who settled this area in 1720 along with their five sons - each with bible names: Zacharias, Zaccheus, Zenas, Zephaniah and Zedekiah. John was a carpenter and had many slaves, many who are buried near the original home place.
During the Civil War, Tates Bluff served as an observation post, a point for gathering troops, and possibly an 1864 supply depot for the confederate army.
